Frequently Asked Questions about our Learn-to-Swim Program
- What if my child is too advanced for the class that he or she is registered for?
- Our instructors will evaluate your child's skills on the first day of the lesson. They will determine if your child needs to be moved to a different skill level and make the necessary changes after the first lesson.
- What are semi-private lessons; do the kids have to be at the same level to take lessons together?
- Semi-Private lessons are private lessons conducted with 2 or 3 siblings at the same time. It is recommended for siblings near the same age and skill level.
- How does the refund policy work?

- Cancellations received at least 10 days prior to program start date will be refunded less a 10% surcharge.
- Cancellations received within 3 days of program start date will receive a credit voucher toward a future JCC program less a 10% surcharge.
- No refunds or credits will be issued for voluntary withdrawal, no-shows, or expulsion.
- Injuries and illness, with a valid letter from your physician, will receive a credit voucher toward a future JCC program less a 10% surcharge.
- All refunds/credits requested after June 1st will be processed by August 31st.
- Refunds for private and semi-private swim lessons will not be given after September 25th.
- My child passed the “starfish” level and there is no room in “seahorse” for the next session, how do I register my child?
- If you plan to take swim lessons for multiple sessions, then it is recommended that you register for those sessions as early as possible. This will guarantee your child's spot in any class.
- My online registration did not go through, how can I register and receive the $5 dollar discount?
- You should receive an email confirmation once you have registered for swim lessons. If you have not, then you may call the JCC and we can take your registration over the phone. You will still receive the online discount.
- Should I sign my child up for private lessons or group lessons?
- Your child will receive one-on-one attention for 30 minutes during a private lesson. Group lesson are 25 minutes long with up to six children per one instructor.
- Are the JCC swim instructors certified? What are their qualifications?
- All of our instructors are under the direct supervision of an American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor Trainer. Some, but not all of our instructors are Water Safety Instructor Certified. Our instructors conduct weekly staff training sessions and go through intense instructor training at the beginning of the summer. All of our instructors are CPR certified.
- What time do the private lessons take place?
- Private lessons can be set-up to work around your schedule. Our instructors are very flexible and will try to accommodate you and your child as best as they can.
- I forgot what class I signed up for.
- You will receive a confirmation email once we have received your online registration. If you have misplaced this email, then please contact the aquatics department.
- What is your swimmer to instructor ratio?
- Our ratio will never exceed 6 swimmers to 1 instructor.
- Why do Sunday lessons cost more than last year?
- We have increased the amount of classes that you will receive per session from 4-5. We have
also increased the class times from 25 minutes to 45 minutes per class.
