Author Dolores Sloan Talk and Book Signing

Dolores (“Dolly”) Sloan, author of The Sephardic Jews of Spain and Portugal: Survival of an Imperiled Culture in the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries, has combined tales told to her by descendants of this culture in New Mexico, the southwest, and abroad with facts from primary and secondary research sources and archives. As Director of Literary Programs for New Mexico in the early 1990s, her work took her to towns and villages in the northern part of the state,which had been settled over 300 years ago by émigrés from Spain and the Spanish colonies to the south. Her work led to conversation and friendships, sometimes shared meals, with people she met along the way. Bagels & shmear, juice and coffee will be served during the event. New Mexico Humanitarian Awards Dinner

The JCC is proud to present the annual New Mexico Humanitarian Awards, on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 6:00 pm at Embassy Suites. These awards honor community members who embody an outstanding spirit of humanity in a local, national, or international capacity. Ticket Fashion Show

The most creative center pieces auctioned off, a fashion show full of Albuquerque finest, and a room full of people who know how to have fun; these are just a few of the reasons The Ticket is an event you do not want to miss.
The Ticket is an event dedicated to high end fashion and style put together in the most creative designs imaginable. Each table has a center piece designed by a local business. As you are stunned by the creativity of the tables the event will start with models showing how high end fashion Albuquerque can be, running the gamut from fun sport suits to elegant evening gowns. And to make sure everyone walks away with something, there are tons of raffle prizes given out. This annual event of the JCC’s has always drawn a crowd.
Not only does this event entertain, but the profits go towards supporting the youth programming at the JCC. The JCC is committed to open its doors to all youth and supporting the community. Through this funding, the programming is able to continue at the expected high quality while opening doors to many due to the scholarships available.
