PASSOVER HAGGADAH WORKSHOP

Drops of Honey, A Taste of Honey Seminar Series

If you’ve never been to a Passover Seder, or if you’ve been to a thousand…this workshop is for you! Journey of Questions and Faith: A Passover Haggadah by Anne McGoey with illustrations by Arthur Sussman makes Passover observance accessible to everyone: from the learned to the novice, from the Jew and to the gentile. Passover is not only about telling the story of the Exodus, but it is also a chance to connect various aspects of the story to find deeper personal meaning. All faiths and backgrounds can benefit from Anne’s exploration. Question and answer session along with book signing opportunity immediately following the workshop.

Ethics of the Fathers for the 21st Century

Travel Photography Workshop

Take Your Travel Photos to the Next Level! Learn how to improve your images before they are taken, how to make the most of a bad situation such as rain, poor lighting, and large crowds, and how to improve images after they have been captured in the camera. Parents and their children come together for a structured gym game and refreshments. This is a great way for dads and moms with younger children to come meet others in a fun activity-based setting. Gym games will consist of obstacle courses, tag games, T-ball, throwing and kicking activities and other fun gym activities. Parents must be present. Meet in the gymnasium.

JCC Book Club

Mah Jongg for Beginners

Hebrew Class

Beginning & Intermediate Conversational. These courses are a unique integration between an Ulpan (learning the alphabet) and beginner’s conversational Hebrew. The focus will be on speaking, writing and reading basic Modern Hebrew on a variety of useful topics. At the end of the course, students should have a basic vocabulary of useful words for personal needs, should know how to express basic feelings and emotions, and should know how to construct, read, and write basic short sentences. The Exceptional Art Group Adult Special Needs Art Class

TUE & THU, Beginning 1/12, 2-4pm, $200 member/nm

The Exceptional Art Group serves high-functioning, developmentally-disabled young adults through art education in a small group class setting. The course focuses on drawing, painting, and 3-dimensional design in a collaborative format with peers, professional artists, and the community. As these exceptional students progress through the course, they will build a sense of self-confidence, improve visual perceptual coordination, and gain access to the community. Class maximum is 6 students. Art supplies not included.

Please note that an interview with the instructor will be conducted prior to enrollment. Good candidates for the class will be high functioning, ambulatory, and can take care of their physical/personal needs.

Meet the instructors: Travis Farnsworth, BFA & Community Integration Specialist and Kris Mills, MFA & UNM Adjunct Lecturer

Travis received his BFA from UNM and has worked with adult individuals with developmental disabilities for the last 6 six years in a professional setting. He is passionate about merging his talent for art and his skills for working with the special needs community.

Kris received her MFA from UNM and BFA from University of California-Davis. She has received multiple awards for her art, publishes frequently, and appears as a guest lecturer throughout the country when she is not conducting various types of sculpture classes at UNM.

Multimedia Art Expression

Art Exploration for 3-5 year olds. Messy art activities let children explore art for art’s sake, allowing them to enjoy the process of creating. If the idea of mess and muck leaves you in a cold sweat, we can help! Each week a new messy art activity will be introduced, allowing your child to explore colors, consistencies, or textures; but the mess will stay here and we will clean it up! Please dress your child in mess-appropriate clothing. There is a minimum of 4 students and a maximum of 8 students. Adult leagues are geared toward the intermediate to advanced player with emphasis on recreation and good sportsmanship. All leagues will have a mandatory participant meeting and registration night. Sports 101: Sports Extravaganza

How often do your kids ask you about joining an organized sports team and end up finding out that it is not for them? In Sports 101, kids will be free to try a variety of different activities to help them learn what they like best. They will play various sports from basketball, kickball, t-ball, and croquet in this 7-week class. Run, jump, kick, throw, swing, and enjoy! Exposing youth to new and exciting games and sports is a great way to get kids active while establishing the foundations central to physical development and community play. This class helps build gross motor skills and coordination while emphasizing good sportsmanship and fair play in a relaxed learning environment. Kawakido Mixed Martial Arts

Triathlon 101

Beginning 2/5.
Cost is $199 for members and $299 for non-members

This is a program designed for the individual who wants to train and compete in triathlons. The only prerequisite is that you are in good health and are willing to sweat. The class will be taught by USA Triathlon Level 1 Coach Barry Field. Barry is a veteran triathlete who has competed in more than 100 triathlons over 25 years.

You will need bike, a good pair of training flats (running shoes), a swimming suit and goggles.

We will offer two group workout sessions per week. One will be on Saturdays at Kirtland Air Force Base. We will always swim after a run or bike. The other workout will be biking in various SAFE places around the city. This will be during the week in the pm.

What you expect to learn:
Your fitness level.
Your maximum heart rate.
Your heart rate training zones with frequency/duration/intensity for workouts.
Basic bike handling skills and maintenance.
Tips on jogging.
Become water safe and swim the freestyle stroke.
The final examination at the end of the 3 month program will be a run/bike/swim on Kirtland Air Force Base.
