Karate For Kids

Our goal is to teach the fundamentals of Shotokan Karate. This includes: Kata, Kihon and Kumite. Our students will learn self-defense, self-awareness, coordination, flexibility, self discipline. They will develop self-confidence, self-esteem and self-control.

Senior Moments

An Original Musical written by Linda Kaufman with Mark A. Lit

Senior Moments directed by Roberta Stein is an original, fast-paced musical romp that touches on many aspects of aging, both the amusing and the poignant. With a cast of six actors, this production delivers 90 minutes of top quality music and dialogue that will delight audience members of all ages.

Children's Dance

$145 member / $200 non-member
11-week session

Dance 1: (Ages 5+) Combines ballet and Jazz. Continued introduction to dance with emphasis on dance foundations, coordination, basic dance terminology, and learning dance etiquette. Dancers will develop strength, technique, and correct body placement in a creatively challenging atmosphere.

Pottery Making 1 and 2 for Adults and Teens

TUES Pottery Making 1, Aug. 21- Nov. 13 (No Class 9/18) 5:45-7:45pm
WED Pottery Making 2, Aug. 22- Nov. 14 (No Class 9/19) 5:45-7:45pm
12 Class Sessions
$210 JCC members/ $240 non-members

Teens over 16 and Adults are welcome! Pottery Making 1 is for beginners with little to no experience on pottery wheels. Pottery Making 2 is for experienced students who have become well adept at beginning throwing skills and are ready to move on to more complex throwing and assemblage challenges. Learn and refine the art of wheel thrown pottery. Make your own tea cups, coffee mugs, plates, goblets, and trimmed bowls by using pottery wheel and hand building the assemblages. All works will be glaze fired and food safe.

Spanish for Adults- Beginning Level

Learn to speak Spanish in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Prior Spanish experience is not necessary, but this will also be an ideal refresher course for those who have studied some Spanish in the past. We start with numbers, colors, days, months, telling time, basic phrases and simple conversation. This course is ideal for those who want to gain a working knowledge of the Spanish language for travel or to communicate with those whose first language is Spanish.
Instructor: Magda Holloway, from Columbia, is bi-lingual and has been teaching adults and teens beginning to intermediate Spanish for years.

Women's Self Defense

The need for Women's self-defense is greater than it has ever been. Women's Self-Defense should not only teach awareness of your surroundings, but also easy to learn and effective physical defenses to get yourself and your loved ones out of danger. Michelle Church is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Krav Maga and has been teaching women's self-defense over 5 years. She teaches easy to learn, hard to forget and quickly deployed defensive techniques designed specifically for women to use to defend themselves against larger opponents. Take the time to learn the skills necessary to survive this increasingly violent world.

Tuesday Mixed Media Art After School Ages 5-11

12 Tuesdays from 4:15 - 5:30 pm * Aug 21 through Nov 13 (No class on 9/18)

This is a multi-media art class where creativity and imagination are the name of the game. Based on student interest, we will explore media of: ceramics, sculpture, drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage. Maybe we will do them all!

Projects designed to challenge each child at her/his own level.

Come away with colorful 2 and 3-dimensional works of art that will make great gifts and can last a lifetime!

Taught by Celeste Boals, professional art educator and visual artist who has offered diverse art classes from ceramics to painting to mobiles to pottery for all ages from 5-95 at the JCC for the past 7 years. Pottery After School for Older Kids - Ages 8-14

Wednesdays 4:15-5:30 * Aug 22 - Nov 14 (No class on 9/19)

This class is specifically for 8- 14 year olds who love clay! We will be working primarily on the potters' wheels to learn the art of vessel making. Hand-building clay forms and wheel-throwing will be taught. Learn to make your own mugs and bowls. Beginners and experienced are welcome. All work will be glazed-fired and food safe.

T'ai Chi Chih!

Joy through movement

TUESDAYS, Aug 28 - Oct. 2 at 12 - 1pm

Tai Chi Chih is a series of 19 gentle, graceful movements and one pose. In this 6 week class, we’ll cover at least 9 movements and the pose. The purpose of this easy to learn, slow moving meditation is to circulate and balance the chi, the Vital Force within each of us. Among the many benefits students often experience are improved balance and coordination, flexibility, stress reduction, and an enhanced sense of well-being.

SHRED Body Transformation Challenge

Our trainers Karen and Katie will push you to the limit, allowing you to put your endurance to the test and scorch excess fat in the process. With two outdoor workouts each week, body composition measurements, nutrition accountability, and group camaraderie, this challenge will take your fitness to a new level. Kettlebell training is a great way to build strength and lean muscle and burn through body fat! Tracee has been a Russian kettlebell instructor for over 8 years, and in these workshops she will teach you how to perform basic kettlebell movements with proper form and safety. Master technique for: Kettlebell deadlift, Kettlebell swing (2 arm and single arm), Two handed clean, Single arm clean, Strict press, push press, Snatch, and Turkish get up.

Sunday group swim lessons run in 5 week session and classes are 45 minutes long (Parent &Tot classes are 25 minutes). The JCC Learn to Swim Program is designed to help your child learn skills from bubble blowing all the way to stroke refinement. This will include safety skills in, on, and around the water. As your child progresses through our program, they will learn specific skills that will help them advance through the five different class levels taught here at the JCC. We never let our student-to-instructor ratio exceed 6 to 1 for levels I-V.

Fall Stroke Clinic is Tuesdays and Friday from 5:30pm-6:30pm.
Participate in learning to improve your stroke technique for the next swim season. This clinic is for both boys and girls that have a beginning to intermediate swimming level or higher level.

A great way to train for personal fitness, swim competitions, and triathlons. Stroke development will be analyzed and competitive skills developed. This class is for 19 years and older. Must have basic knowledge of all four strokes.

Fit for Life

CLASS DESCRIPTION:
This class focuses on becoming functionally fit for life! Aaron uses many traditional weight lifting modalities, olympic barbell work, power lifting, sled pushes, trx, cross fit, mobility work with foam rollers and bands, and much more. Aaron has his Masters in Exercise Science, is a book author, and is a Crossfit Level 1 Trainer.

If you want to improve an olympic lift, work on a certain skill or simply to take your fitness to the next level, you can set up 1 on 1 training with any coach of your choice.
