A Taste of Honey (ATOH), the annual day of Jewish learning for the New Mexico Jewish community, will celebrate its Eleventh year at the JCC. ATOH is the annual social, cultural and educational event that provides an opportunity to savor Jewish life at its best. It brings together all of the New Mexico community to explore Judaism and the Jewish experience. Brochures and more information are available at the J or by calling 348-4500.

8 Week Spinning & Weight Loss

Your coaches believe a strong psychological component is crucial to your success in this endeavor. In other words, WE GET IT! This can be a life-changing event, utilizing a unique concept of not just achieving weight loss, but changing the way you think about nutrition, fitness and ultimately your lifestyle.

Sports 101 Basketball

SUN, 2/1 3/22, 12 - 1:00PM, $95mem/$110nm, Ages 5 - 12

This is one of the most popular programs at the JCC for elementary and middle school age children as it gives players the opportunity to learn, and refine, individual skills and techniques within basketball. Focusing on dribbling, passing, shooting, along with fundamentals of attack and defense, players have the opportunity to participate in a weekly structured practices followed by small-sided games and scrimmages to allow players to carry their learned skills into realistic, game-like situations; on the last day of class children will scrimmage their parents. This class fills quickly, so register early. Meet in the Abe & Sophia Cohen Gymnasium within the JCC. Sports 101 Basketball is an 8 week program.

Art Afterschool: Clay! Draw! Paint! 1st-6th Grade

Tuesday, 4:15 - 5:30 pm 1/13 - 3/31 (12 weeks)

This is a multi-media art class where creativity and imagination are the name of the game. Based on student interest, we will choose from: ceramics, sculpture, drawing, and painting. Maybe we will do them all! Come away with colorful 2 or 3-dimensional pieces that will make great gifts and can last a lifetime! Beginners through advanced are welcome, as projects will be taught to challenge each child's varied level.

Taught by Celeste Boals, professional art educator, has taught at the JCC for 4 years and has become a favorite.

Parents Night Out

This monthly Saturday evening service gives parents the opportunity to drop off their children at the JCC and enjoy a night out. Participants will join in various activities throughout the night including gym games, arts & crafts projects, dinner, and a movie (with popcorn and snacks).

Participants will play fun gym games, arts and crafts, spend time in the Youth Lounge and playground with JCC Camp Staff. There will also be a kids DVD movie daily during lunch. Beginning Meditation

SUN., Feb 8 1:30-3pm, $35m/$45nm (Register by 2/5)

Learn to meditate in this step by step one day workshop using a classical yoga method. Following a series of steps, you will learn to regulate your breath, focus your attention, quiet your nervous system, ease body tension and gradually developing inner peace. This class is for anyone who wants to learn meditation or develop a systematic practice. This class will be taught in chairs. Wear comfortable clothing. This class includes a take-home audio practice CD. Instructor: Rennie McGuire, Meditation Teacher of the Institute of the Himalayan Tradition (IHT) since 2009.

Karate For Kids

Our goal is to teach the fundamentals of Shotokan Karate. This includes: Kata, Kihon and Kumite. Our students will learn self-defense, self-awareness, coordination, flexibility, self discipline. They will develop self-confidence, self-esteem and self-control.

An exciting class geared specifically for kids 6-12 years of age. Our expert trainer Nick has developed a cardiovascular, strength, and fitness training program with an exciting and unique approach! Your kids will be engaged in a safe and exciting environment! Let them experience how exciting fitness and working out can be. Classes are 45 minutes each session, 2 times per week, for 6 weeks.

Bars & Bells

Increase lean muscle mass while shedding those unwanted pounds. This class combines the best of both worlds: Kettlebells & Barbells (mix of power lifting & Olympic lifting). You will polish your lifting techniques, while having fun with fitness. This class will change your outlook on working out!

Couples/Partner Yoga

Partner Yoga expands the traditional yoga practice with the forms and principles of individual posture while incorporating the presence of another to deepen the impact of the practice. Familiar postures have renewed power and effectiveness when partners work together. Partners rely on each other's support to keep correct body alignment, balance and focus in a posture. BAR Metrics is a highly athletic class designed to strengthen, lengthen and tone the entire body in the most efficient way possible with minimal impact. Activated isolated training is combined with a fusion of classic ballet barre, Pilates, and explosive isometric moves. This class will work and sculpt your endurance muscles for a sleek, lean and toned physique. Each class is designed to guide participants through a highly targeted range of exercises that specifically address core, hips, thighs, arms and bum. This is not your everyday toning class!

Do you seek personal instruction to learn or further develop pilates fundamentals? Whatever your goal is, working one on one with our expert instructors is sure to meet your needs. Project Chesed

Title 1 Homeless Project - December 21 to March 19, 2015

The largest and most important safety net for homeless children and youth is the public school system, which provides both basic services as well as the education that is necessary to avoid poverty as adults.

Donations: New unopened packages of underwear and socks for Kindergarten through 12th grade students.

Volunteer opportunities: 1) Volunteer to tutor elementary or middle school students; 2) Volunteer on a weekly, monthly, or occasional basis to work in the Homeless Project storeroom, filling backpacks, making up snack packs, preparing grocery sacks, etc.
